Compagnie 111 / Aurélien Bory (France)
Aurélien Bory and his theatre company Compagnie 111 have dazzled audiences at Eurokaz before with the combination of non-verbal theatre, circus techniques and imaginative toying with space. In this project man encounters robot, a massive robotic arm used in the automobile industry for performing difficult and boring tasks instead of workers. On the stage the robot enters the field of art, loses its primary function and becomes redundant, becomes – irrelevant.
However, Aurélien Bory has found a function for it, brought it closer to communicating with man. Robot`s behaviour does not change, its mechanical features, power and cruelty, even the rage of its aggressive movements, are preserved in the performance. Nevertheless, man and robot become partners. More importantly, they gradually make contact.
